Institute of Humanities provides the base for uniting diffused individual humanities researchers. The institute expends the scope of humanities research through planning and performing of major projects which individual researchers could not afford to.
Institute of Humanities performs the hub of individual laboratories of College of Liberal Arts.
Institute of Humanities covers the new domains of knowledge which were not included to the existing domain such as Culturology, Translation Studies, Cultural Contents Studies, Studies on Regional Cultures, and Digital Humanities.Institute of Humanities plans and performs interdisciplinary projects.
Institute of Humanities promotes research exchange and establishes the relation of cooperation with other Western and Eastern Humanities Institutes.
Institute of Humanities strives to popularize Humanities knowledge to students and the general public.
Fields of study
1) Planning of Humanities research and interdisciplinary research.
There are about one hundred full-time professors and two hundred doctoral researchers from various specialties.
2) Comparative study on Western and Eastern.
The study of culture, history, and views of Western and Eastern culture is the basis of Humanities. Comparative study is essential for mutual understanding and communication in this globalization world.
3) Deepened research and comparative study of literature, language, and history.
Since study of literature, language, and history is the basis of humanities research, the institute focuses on aggregating the related research, in order to approach the topics from the big picture.
4) Study on Interpretation and translation
The systematic study on interpretation and translation is necessary. The institute strives to apply the translation theories and research to reflect the reality.

As more and more information is transformed to digital media in the 21the century, it is essential to comprehend the changes of culture and literature. The institute studies the role of text in cyber space and hyper literature which is newly appeared.

Classical literatures are the base of humanities and it is still valid in the digital age. The in-depth study of Western and Eastern classics is necessary for understanding the root of humanities. The institute publishes a series of classics research and translated literature.
